How are we giving this help - After discussions with grannies, village headmen and women, villagers and chiefs we evolved a plan. To avoid dependency and disempowerment we have chosen to use micro and macro loans and education to lift and sustain their lives. We will keep a bank of seeds and livestock on our farm which will be resourced from donations and the returns from the loans.
The grannies wil get moringa trees, strong long lasting roofs for their huts, loans for chickens, seeds, goats.
The Communities will get loans of livestock and seeds, workshops and education to create bricks avoiding the use of topsoil, new crops that give great nutrition without the need for expensive fertilisers, irrigation systems to enable double cropping, fireplaces that use less fuel and water filters for safe water. |

We have chosen to help the people of the Mansa region in Zambia. Specifically grannies with the orphans they support, the families that have been left destitute by Aids and communities who have lost their heart and sustainability due to disease and poverty.
Why Zambia?
Zambia is one of the poorest countries in the world with the highest per capita orphan population at 10%. With the lowest lifespan of any other country, estimated at 33 years of age, it is the home to 10 million people of which 17-21% are currently infected with the HIV virus. With 80% unemployment and most of the population living on less than $1 a day. Zambia is in great need of help. Mansa is one of its more desperate and remote regions. |
